Placement Report

1.0 Introduction

Danny Turley was employed as a Multimedia Developer for the Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Information and Computer Science (HEA ICS Subject Centre) on the 23rd July 2007. The HEA ICS Subject centre is one of 24 Subject Centre’s funded by the Higher Education Academy. The Centres, which are based in higher educational institutions throughout the UK, offer subject specific expertise and information on learning and teaching for the HE community. The Higher Education Academy - ICS is hosted at the University of Ulster in collaboration with Loughborough University.

Danny has became an integral part of the Subject Centre team, working on promoting and branding events, creating fully functional websites, and on media and print design.  Danny has been involved in traveling to major events held across the UK, meeting and greeting the ICS Community first hand and presenting hands on material at workshops.

1.1 History and Development of the HEA ICS Subject Centre

The Centre was originally formed back in 1990 and was known as Computers in Teaching Initiative (CTI). The Subject Centre came into existence in 2004 from a merger of the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (ILTHE), the Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN), and the TQEF National Co-ordination Team (NCT).  The Informatics Computer Sciences (ICS) Subject Centre is one of the 24 Subject Centre’s that the Higher Education Academy formed in 2004.  The Higher Education Academy is a UK based organisation in which its purpose is to support quality enhancement both in teaching and student through higher education. Their aim is to provide and promote good practice within in learning and teaching for higher education.
